Where this comes from

i grew up on a college campus.

I'm DéRecco. I grew up on a college campus and got my start at an HBCU in Missouri, running orientation at 25. From there it was a $30M pre-college operation at Brown, then Big Tech, which took twenty interviews and nineteen people telling me no before somebody said yes. At Salesforce I was a solutions engineer leading their HBCU go-to-market strategy, which is how I ended up building things alongside Disney, Netflix, Apple, and the White House. Then I started a company, went back for a doctorate, and took everything I learned back to higher education. Today I lead enrollment at a large public university.

The invisible economy is the unwritten rules, relationships, access, and signals that decide who gets hired, who gets promoted, and who gets invited into the room. You won't find it in a handbook or a job posting, but it shapes careers on college campuses, in big tech, in entertainment, and in government. I write about it every Sunday so you can see it too.
